Gardeners urged to do simple task to help hedgehogs and birds this month
Wildlife charities are urging gardeners to provide fresh, clean water for hedgehogs and birds during hot, dry weather. Water containers should be washed and dried daily to reduce disease transmission, positioned away from predators and kept separate from feeding stations. Shallow bowls, escape routes from ponds and pebbles to help insects are recommended, while gardeners are also advised to check lawns before mowing or lighting bonfires and never give hedgehogs milk.

Horrifying Reason Historic Royal Family Had Birth Defects and a 'Pronounced Jaw'
Research examining portraits of 66 Habsburg rulers and a 20-generation family tree found a significant relationship between inbreeding and the severity of the dynasty’s characteristic protruding lower jaw. Charles II of Spain, whose parents were closely related, suffered multiple health problems and infertility, contributing to the dynasty’s extinction. The researchers also identified evidence of maxillary deficiency in several family members, though its association with inbreeding was less consistent. They attribute the traits primarily to increased homozygosity while acknowledging that genetic drift cannot be completely ruled out.
