In Brazil, deforestation is reaching record levels. In 2022, 10,573 square kilometers of vegetation were wiped off the map, a figure that surpasses the record of 9,178 square kilometers in 2021. The Bahia region is particularly disfigured due to intensive soybean cultivation, a crop primarily intended for export to Europe, particularly France. The consequences are serious for small local farmers and the environment of this northeastern state.
