Eight subtle signs your cat may have dementia – and what to do if you spot one
Feline cognitive dysfunction syndrome is a common age-related condition, particularly in older cats, and may cause excessive vocalisation, altered social interactions, disrupted sleep, house soiling, disorientation, activity changes, anxiety and learning difficulties. Because these signs can also indicate conditions such as arthritis or kidney disease, owners should consult a vet. There is no cure, but carefully tailored environmental enrichment and diets containing feline-approved supplements may help some cats; major changes can worsen confusion in severely affected animals, and dog supplements may be toxic to cats.
