Astronomer Gideon Bendavid-Walker recommends dark locations including Richmond Park, Wimbledon Common, Epsom Downs, Box Hill and the South Downs National Park for viewing the Perseid meteor shower. The shower is expected to peak overnight on August 12–13, with the best viewing between midnight and dawn and activity increasing from around August 9. Under ideal conditions, observers may see up to 100–150 meteors per hour, and no specialist equipment is required.
