New fishing net rules introduced to improve sea safety in Jersey
Jersey has introduced updated fishing regulations requiring all static fishing nets, including recreational nets, to be marked with red and white floats. The changes aim to prevent swimmers, paddleboarders, kayakers and other sea users from becoming entangled, while also simplifying fishing rules and strengthening marine protection. Minimum mesh sizes have increased for both recreational and commercial fishers, and the revised rules also cover trawl nets, scallop dredges and marine protected areas.
