Spud Bros co-founder Jacob Nelson urged customers not to camp overnight for a jacket potato after two Stockport teenagers waited 15 hours outside the Trafford Centre to be first in line. The teenagers received a 55-inch television from Harley Nelson. Jacob said the business appreciates its supporters but has a responsibility to keep its large following, particularly younger customers, safe, and may reconsider giveaways that encourage overnight queues.

Harley, a missing Collie-cross from Brookfield in Preston, was reunited with his family after members of the public shared appeals and two women found him in a workman's yard. The women initially believed he belonged there and fed him over an eight-foot fence until they saw the missing-dog posters. Harley’s owner, Karena, returned from Spain to help search and climbed the fence to retrieve him after their other dog, Poppy, helped attract his attention. The family thanked everyone involved and celebrated Harley’s return with rest and cooked chicken.

Lancashire Police reminded the public that 999 should be used only for life-threatening emergencies or crimes happening at the time. The warning followed a call about a house containing many cats, and stressed that inappropriate calls can block lines for people in immediate danger. Non-urgent crimes should be reported via 101, which also offers a callback service.
