I tried two cheap DIY fruit fly traps and one was a clear winner
A first-person test of two inexpensive DIY fruit fly traps found that both white wine vinegar and apple cider vinegar attracted flies, but the apple cider vinegar trap caught more than 20 overnight and was the clear winner. Adding washing-up liquid helps flies sink, while cling film with small holes makes escape more difficult. The piece also recommends removing contaminated food, cleaning affected areas, and flushing boiling water down drains to prevent further infestations.
