The total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027, will be visible from Gibraltar, where totality is expected to last four minutes and 32 seconds. The eclipse path will also cross parts of southern Spain, North Africa, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. British travellers can reach Gibraltar by flights from several UK airports or via Spain, with suggested viewing sites including Casemates Square, Queensway Quay, Ocean Village and the Skywalk. Solar astrophysicist Ryan French says it will be the longest eclipse visible during the remainder of most people's lifetimes, with generally favorable weather expected along much of the path.

The Megara Olympians Municipal Stadium in Attica has been converted into an emergency shelter for more than 110 dogs rescued from wildfires near Athens. Volunteers are providing food, water and care while veterinarians assess the animals, some of which may be reunited with owners. The fires, intensified by dry conditions and strong winds, have destroyed homes and wildlife habitats, while new figures indicate that 42% of Attica’s woodland has burned over the past decade. Greek officials reported 33 detentions linked to suspected negligent or deliberate fire-starting, and firefighting aircraft and helicopters continue to battle the blazes.
