Female killer who lured schoolgirl to her death dies in prison
Donna Marie Brand, 47, has died in custody while serving a life sentence for the 1996 murder of 14-year-old Caroline Glachan in West Dunbartonshire. Brand was convicted alongside Robert O'Brien and Andrew Kelly in 2023 and was required to serve at least 17 years. The trial heard that Caroline was attacked near the River Leven and her body was later found in the river. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will examine Brand's death, with Police Scotland notified and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Will clouds ruin your view of the Blood Moon? Check your postcode
A deep partial lunar eclipse will peak at 5:12am on Friday, with around 93% of the Moon covered by Earth’s darkest shadow and potentially appearing red. Southern and eastern England are expected to have the best early viewing conditions, while cloud could disrupt views across much of the UK and become more widespread overnight. The eclipse begins at 2:23am, reaches its partial phase at 3:33am and ends around 6:51am, although the Moon will set earlier in some areas. Clear skies and an unobstructed south-western view will offer the best chance of seeing it, and no specialist eye protection is needed.
