Man shot during chip shop run in 'mistaken identity' incident
A Liverpool man, David Forbes, was shot in the legs in a mistaken‑identity attack carried out by Daniel Lawless, who approached him with a shotgun while he was walking to a chip shop. CCTV showed Lawless displaying the weapon in a pub car park beforehand and fleeing the scene after the attack. Forbes suffered severe injuries requiring multiple surgeries and ongoing treatment. Lawless, who had a history of violent offences and mental‑health issues, admitted wounding with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. A judge sentenced him to 18 and a half years in prison plus four years on licence, citing the seriousness of the attack, the use of a firearm and his previous convictions.
