Hull remembers war heroes at 'beautifully' restored cenotaph
A remembrance service marking the 81st anniversary of VJ Day was held at Hull's Paragon Square cenotaph. Hull City Council had the cenotaph and nearby Boer War monument cleaned by hand using a non-abrasive process, leaving veterans, families and local officials pleased with their improved condition. The restoration was undertaken by Joel Haigh in memory of his grandfather, a D-Day veteran, while attendees used the service to honour those who served in World War Two and later conflicts.

Skegness sand art poster to promote Tour of Britain cycle race
Artists will create a 48-by-40-metre sand poster on Skegness beach on 20 August to promote the Tour of Britain men's cycle race.
