GAA set to scale back Casement Park redevelopment plans
Redevelopment plans for Casement Park are set to be scaled back due to significant funding shortfalls, reducing expected capacity well below the original 34,000 seats and ruling out hosting Ulster senior finals. The revision follows years of planning disputes, rising construction costs and uncertainty over government financial commitments, including the UK government’s decision not to fund a Euro 2028‑compliant stadium. The GAA will prepare a new statement of need based on available resources, while political disagreements within the Northern Ireland Executive and competing budget proposals continue to complicate progress.
