Tajikistan government prevents foreign media journalists from continuing their work

27 Oct 2019  |  www.bbc.com
The Tajikistan government has not renewed the accreditation or work permits for several journalists from foreign media outlets. This issue has been raised in American governing circles, as most of these journalists worked for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty based in Prague. Alice Wells, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, expressed support for the international campaign backing Radio Free Europe journalists. Prior to this, Radio Free Europe's management, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Helsinki Human Rights Commission, the National Congress of America, the National Association of Independent Media of Tajikistan, and the Tajikistan Media Council had urged Tajik authorities not to hinder the professional work of journalists.
