An 18‑year‑old driver, Sonny Horsfall, was jailed for three years after crashing a poorly maintained Audi A4 into an 84‑year‑old man in Redcar, causing severe injuries before fleeing the scene and later texting friends about the incident. Court evidence showed he had been speeding, filming Snapchat videos, and was driving while disqualified and uninsured. The victim required surgery and rehabilitation but has made significant recovery. Horsfall pleaded guilty to multiple offences and was additionally banned from driving for four years.
