Temperatures in parts of the UK could climb back to 34C in early September after recent rainfall provided temporary relief from an exceptionally dry summer. Met Office forecasts suggest late-season hot spells or heatwaves may develop, particularly in southern areas, while northern regions are likely to receive more rain and stronger winds. Global Forecast System modelling indicates that 15 counties in eastern and southeastern England could reach at least 31C, with the highest potential temperatures in Essex. The summer has already brought five heatwaves, drought conditions across much of England and an estimated 2,800 excess deaths linked to hot spells in May and June.

Forecasts indicate the UK's third heatwave of 2026 will subside briefly before temperatures surge again toward late July, potentially reaching 36C in several English counties. The Met Office expects a short-term drop to near-seasonal averages before warmer conditions return, while GFS model data highlights nine counties at risk of temperatures exceeding 35C. Late July may also bring an increased chance of rain and thunderstorms as high pressure weakens.

Forecast models indicate that the UK heatwave will continue for about 15 days, with temperatures expected to exceed 30C daily and peak at 36–37C in parts of England. Western, central and southern regions are set for repeated highs above 35C, with Wales and northern England also experiencing extreme heat. The Met Office predicts temperatures up to 35C and warns of high UV levels, advising precautions as hot conditions extend into Scotland and Northern Ireland.
