A total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027, will be visible from Gibraltar, giving people in British territory the chance to experience totality after the UK mainland narrowly missed it in 2026. Total darkness is expected to last four minutes and 32 seconds, with viewing locations including Casemates Square, Queensway Quay, Ocean Village and the Skywalk in the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. The eclipse will also cross parts of Spain, North Africa, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, and experts expect favorable weather along much of the path, particularly in desert regions.

Weather models indicate a potential early‑August UK heatwave with temperatures possibly reaching 41C, surpassing the 2022 record. Forecasts show rising temperatures from late July, with the south and east of England most affected and up to ten counties potentially exceeding 40C. Wales may see low‑30C temperatures, while Scotland and Northern Ireland remain cooler. The Met Office outlook expects above‑normal temperatures, mostly settled and dry conditions, and occasional thunderstorms, with higher pressure prevailing through August.

Weather models indicate another surge in UK temperatures later in July, with the GFS model predicting highs of up to 36C after a brief cooling period this weekend. The Met Office expects temperatures around 30C through Saturday before dropping slightly on Sunday, while conditions remain dry and settled. Forecasts for July 25–26 show several counties in England potentially reaching 35C or higher, with temperature anomalies well above seasonal averages and a continued likelihood of warmer-than-normal conditions toward the end of July.

Forecast models indicate a prolonged UK heatwave lasting up to 15 days, with temperatures reaching 35C to 37C across 23 counties in England and Wales. The Met Office expects highs in the low-to-mid 30s, with some areas potentially experiencing tropical nights. Central, southern, and western England are projected to be the hottest, with widespread above-average temperatures shown on anomaly maps.
