Where Brits can see a total solar eclipse in 2027
A total solar eclipse on 2 August 2027 will pass over Gibraltar, giving visitors from Britain the chance to experience up to four minutes and 32 seconds of totality. The eclipse will also be visible across parts of Yemen, Saudi Arabia, North Africa and southern Spain. Suggested viewing sites in Gibraltar include Casemates Square, Queensway Quay, Ocean Village and the Skywalk, while flights are available from several UK airports. Solar astrophysicist Ryan French describes it as the longest remaining total eclipse in people’s lifetimes and says the largely desert route should offer favourable weather conditions.

Weather maps show Yorkshire in new heatwave surge - 35C or more
Weather models indicate a prolonged heatwave across Yorkshire, with temperatures expected to reach up to 34–36°C and persist for up to fifteen days. High pressure over the region is generating intense heat, warm nights, and elevated UV levels, prompting health alerts and fire risk warnings for areas including the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales. A shift toward late July may bring increased chances of rain or thunderstorms as Atlantic systems move in, though temperatures are likely to remain above average.
