Tributes paid to M9 crash victims as police give update on survivors
Five teenagers—Jeremy O'Brien, Alex McCarthy, Joey Carthy, Jack Kennedy and Kamil Pustkowski—died when their BMW collided head-on with a Hyundai on the M9 in County Kildare. The Hyundai's four occupants, including a seven-year-old boy travelling to Dublin Airport for a wedding in England, remain seriously or critically injured in hospital. Gardaí said the BMW had been legitimately purchased, reversing an initial belief that it was stolen. The crash has prompted debate over police handling of wrong-way driving, calls for improved pursuit training and an investigation by Fiosrú into Garda contact with the vehicle before the collision. Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin condemned reckless driving and its promotion on social media.

Five 'balaclava-clad' teens killed in crash after 'driving wrong way' down motorway
Five teenage males died after a reportedly stolen BMW was driven the wrong way along County Kildare’s M9 motorway and collided head-on with a Hyundai carrying a family travelling toward Dublin Airport. Four family members, including a seven-year-old child, were seriously injured. Gardaí reportedly encountered the BMW twice but did not pursue it, prompting an independent Fiosrú investigation alongside the crash inquiry. Police believe the teenagers may have been wearing balaclavas and that the dangerous driving could have been undertaken for social-media attention.

The decision follows the collapse of a proposed private company to manage FIFA’s flagship competitions, which attracted criticism from UEFA and CONCACAF and prompted resignations by advisers.
