The Perseid meteor shower is expected to peak around 3 a.m. on August 13, 2026, only hours after a solar eclipse, in what experts believe may be the first recorded coincidence of a major meteor-shower peak and an eclipse. Up to 100 meteors an hour could be visible, with the best conditions expected in England and Wales. Stargazers are advised to seek dark rural or coastal locations, look roughly 60 degrees above the horizon, allow 10 to 40 minutes for their eyes to adjust, and dress warmly.

The Football Association of Wales has withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino’s re-election as FIFA president, citing failures in governance, leadership, communication, stakeholder management and judgment. Wales is the first national football association to make the withdrawal publicly. The decision follows backlash against plans to establish a privately funded company to manage major FIFA competitions, including the World Cup; UEFA threatened a boycott and CONCACAF also criticized the proposal. Infantino’s re-election prospects are now under increased pressure, while other British associations have not yet withdrawn their backing.
