Drivers warned against making this costly mistake on September 1
The introduction of the new 76 registration plate on 1 September is expected to increase demand for new cars, but motoring experts warn drivers not to let the latest plate determine their purchase. New vehicles can lose up to 35% of their value in the first year, while PCP finance may build those depreciation costs into higher monthly payments. Buyers are advised to compare finance offers, research depreciation, consider pre-registered or ex-demonstrator cars, and account for potentially higher insurance costs.

Little-known BBC TV Licence rule could save homes £180 a year
A TV Licensing rule allows owners of static caravans, mobile homes, or moveable chalets to avoid paying for a second TV Licence if live TV or BBC iPlayer is not used simultaneously at both the main residence and the second property. Eligible households must submit a non-simultaneous use declaration. The exemption does not apply to conventional second homes. Portable devices running on internal batteries may also be covered by the primary home’s licence when used away from home.

Safety authorities warn that parked vehicles can rapidly exceed outdoor temperatures, and battery-operated items should be kept out of direct heat to avoid damage or hazards.

Groom's Prague stag do ruined as easyJet issues low crew alert
A groom’s planned stag trip to Prague was derailed when an easyJet flight from Gatwick was cancelled due to crew reaching regulated working limits following weather‑related air traffic control restrictions. Half the group reached Prague while four, including the groom, remained stranded in the UK with no alternative flights available in time. The cancellation led to lost bookings and non‑refundable costs. Industry data cited from AirHelp and OAG highlights staff shortages and tight scheduling as ongoing challenges for budget airlines. EasyJet apologised, stating customers were offered rebooking options, refunds and required accommodation.
