Ousted Sheffield Reform councillor brands party "sleazy" and "unprofessional"
Sheffield Firth Park councillor Robert Hanson was removed from Reform UK after refusing to pay a £25 membership fee, despite saying the party knew he was not a member when it selected him as a candidate. Hanson, who is blind, accused the party of being disorganized, unprofessional, sleazy and discriminatory, citing alleged failures to accommodate his disability and exclusion from local party discussions. Reform said it removed the whip after discovering he was not a member and claimed he had repeatedly refused opportunities to join. Hanson will remain a councillor as an independent and praised Sheffield Council and fellow ward councillors for their support.

Reform's welfare plans are 'cruel cut', councillor claims
Reform UK has proposed cutting welfare spending by £50 billion, replacing Personal Independence Payment with a narrower benefit for people deemed gravely ill or severely challenged, restricting benefits for foreign nationals and restoring the two-child limit. Sheffield Green councillor Maleiki Haybe, chair of the city council’s Adult Health and Social Care Committee, says the proposals would undermine disabled people’s independence, push families into poverty and harm Sheffield’s economy. He is urging the city’s Reform councillors to ask Nigel Farage to abandon the plans. Local Government Association figures cited in the report indicate that 45,688 people in Sheffield receive PIP, including 13,715 aged 60 or over.

Petition gains support as hospital staff face rising car park prices

Staff say charges have risen sharply, with some 12-hour NHS shifts costing up to £8.50 at Northern General and £12 at Royal Hallamshire, adding to fuel and household costs. The petition also cites poor lighting, inadequate security and a lack of winter gritting. Public responses range from calls for free hospital parking and better public transport to concerns that free staff parking would reduce spaces for patients. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust says the increases reflect higher maintenance, staffing and security costs, and that parking income supports patient services.
