Why Sullivan Buses Will Not Join the Summer Bus Fare Offer
Sullivan Buses will not participate in the government’s Summer Bus Fare Offer after deciding that the Department for Transport’s funding would not cover enough of the scheme’s operating costs. The Hertfordshire operator, which runs services including the 306 Watford–Borehamwood route, said it supported the scheme’s aims but described the final offer as derisory, meaning normal fares will apply during August. The Department for Transport said more than 200 operators had joined, that funding was calculated consistently, and that Sullivan Buses had chosen not to participate. The operator argued that extending year-round fare caps to term-time school buses would provide greater financial relief for families.

National house-price growth reached 2.2% in the latest Nationwide figures, but the Outer Metropolitan region covering Watford grew by only 0.3%. Mortgage borrowing and approvals also increased, although analysts said the market remained soft amid economic and geopolitical uncertainty.
