Can You Resit A-Levels? How It Works, Timetable and Cost
Students who are unhappy with their A-level results may be able to retake the exams through a school, college, sixth form, online provider or specialist independent college. Resits can usually be taken multiple times, commonly up to four attempts per subject, although maths and English may have different rules. Students generally have to repeat the full A-level in the following May or June under the linear exam system, with no January resit option, and must pay course and exam fees. Coursework marks may be carried forward, and exam boards may use the best marks for individual units where applicable. Students who believe their grades were marked incorrectly can instead request a review or appeal through their school or college, but fees may apply and grades can potentially be lowered.
