Number of foster children with complex needs has risen
The number of children entering foster care with physical disabilities, trauma-related needs, neurodiverse conditions and emotional or behavioural challenges has increased by more than a third in one year, according to Freedom of Information data gathered by the National Fostering Group. The group says the trend creates an urgent need for foster carers with relevant caregiving or public-service experience and offers training, ongoing development and 24/7 support. Dorset foster carer Isobel Dade, who has cared for 13 children over 15 years, said that training and support had equipped her to meet complex needs and stressed that such needs do not define a child.

Barratt David Wilson Homes to Install 10,000 Swift Bricks
Barratt David Wilson Homes has pledged to install 10,000 swift bricks in new homes by the end of 2027, including developments across Dorset. Monumental Sculptures to Come to The Sherborne in September
Thirteen sculptures by British artist of Trinidadian heritage Zak Ové will be installed in the gardens of The Sherborne in Dorset from September 7 through September 6, 2027. The exhibition, The Invisible Man and the Masque of Blackness, explores visibility, resilience, belonging and identity through towering figures inspired by Ové’s earlier 2016 presentation at Somerset House. Co-curated by Liz Gilmore and Robert Fry, the installation is intended to connect metropolitan and rural audiences and support Sherborne’s cultural ambitions as Dorset Town of Culture 2027. Admission to the gallery and gardens will be free, with visitors invited to contribute through a Pay What You Wish scheme.

Aldi announced its opening hours for the August bank holiday

Firework displays return to Weymouth in August from tonight
