Born in Bradford supports limits on number of takeaways
Born in Bradford supports Bradford Council policies limiting new fast-food outlets, arguing that disadvantaged communities are disproportionately exposed to cheap, unhealthy food. A proposal by Euro Engineering Consultants Ltd to convert part of 30 Whetley Hill in Manningham into a takeaway was refused because it would be 40 metres from Atlas Community Primary School and would add to an existing concentration of outlets in Bradford’s most deprived ward. Bradford Council says the district has 759 fast-food outlets, a rate substantially above the UK average, and links the concentration to obesity, diabetes and other chronic diseases.

Burnham to crack down on vape shops and betting shops
The government plans to give councils and communities greater control over high-street businesses by requiring planning permission for vape shops and introducing planning controls for adult gaming centres. It also intends to remove a Gambling Act rule that restricts councils from refusing new betting shops, tighten the definition of vape shops, extend Closure Orders from six to 12 months, and provide guidance on shopfronts and signage. Ministers and regional leaders argue that the measures will help reverse high-street decline, while data cited by the Centre for Social Justice shows a sharp rise in vape and tobacco shops alongside the closure of nearly 1,800 pubs and bars since 2016.
