Review: The Tao of Lloyd, Drawing Room at Assembly Rooms, Four Stars
Dennis Trainor Jr plays a middle-aged Lloyd Dobler, the idealistic character from Cameron Crowe’s 1989 film Say Anything, in a one-man performance set as a wellness retreat. The show combines satire, confession and spiritual workshop elements while exploring ageing, purpose, disillusionment and modern America. Its audience-participation format can be disorienting and occasionally slow, but the production is ultimately warm, witty, sincere and thought-provoking.
