SPFL chief football officer Craig Mulholland is urging Scottish clubs and the Scottish Football Association to cooperate on developing young players. Brexit has intensified competition from English clubs for Scottish talent, while only about a quarter of players starting Scottish Premiership matches are homegrown. Mulholland argues that clubs must offer clear first-team opportunities and high-quality support, creating an economic cycle in which locally developed players can later be sold. He believes collective action, rather than conflict between clubs and the SFA, could strengthen Scottish football.

Stenhousemuir defeated Motherwell 1-0 after extra time at Ochilview to reach the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals.
