West Ham break EFL record to sign Arne Engels for £22m from Celtic
West Ham United have signed 22-year-old Belgium midfielder Arne Engels from Celtic for a reported £22m, setting a new EFL transfer record and giving him a five-year contract. Engels, who scored 17 goals and supplied 22 assists in 100 Celtic appearances and won two Scottish Premiership titles, is West Ham’s fourth summer signing following their relegation to the Championship. He will miss the opening match at Burnley but could debut against Charlton Athletic on 22 August. West Ham’s stated ambition is to return to the Premier League.

One-Day Cup: Nottinghamshire and Durham reach semi-finals
Nottinghamshire and Durham advanced to the One-Day Cup semi-finals with away victories. Nottinghamshire recovered from 55-4 to chase Yorkshire's 273-9, with unbeaten centuries from Jack Haynes and Kyle Verreynne securing a three-wicket win. Durham overwhelmed Lancashire by 162 runs after David Bedingham's century and a major partnership with Ollie Robinson helped them reach 349-8; Lancashire were bowled out for 187. Nottinghamshire will face Leicestershire at Leicester, while Durham meet Middlesex at Radlett on 16 August.
