Government Legal Profession

More than 500 students from underrepresented backgrounds participated in the 2026 Government Legal Profession Diversity Summer Scheme, held online and in Bristol, Leeds, London and Manchester. The programme offered advocacy exercises, a mock trade negotiation, legal-work shadowing, networking and access to senior government lawyers, including discussions about career routes and public service. Organisers and participants emphasized that talent is widespread but opportunity is uneven. The scheme is delivered with legal and social-mobility organizations, and details of the 2027 programme will be announced later.
