A body found in Romania’s Bucegi Mountains is believed to be that of George Smyth, an 18-year-old University of Bristol geology student who disappeared while hiking alone in November. Avon and Somerset Police have informed and supported his family, while formal identification and arrangements to return the body to Bristol are pending. Smyth’s family thanked Romanian mountain rescuers, the police and the University of Bristol, and asked for privacy as they mourn.
