Family 'spent holiday crying' after trip to Turkey turned into a nightmare
Gemma Banks says her family’s two-week all-inclusive stay at the Grand Bahama Beach Hotel in Konakli, Turkey, was ruined by alleged mould, damaged tiles, flies, cats in the kitchen, warm drinks, poor food and suspected food poisoning. She claims the hotel did not match its three-star, all-inclusive advertising and that the family had to spend extra money eating elsewhere. Banks says Lastminute.com initially directed her to hotel management and then closed her complaint, leaving the family distressed. Lastminute.com apologised for the experience and said it had escalated the matter to the accommodation provider, with its review still ongoing. The hotel has not responded to requests for comment, and its listing was later removed from Lastminute.com’s website.

Murderer kidnapped girl as police descend on hotel car park
A convicted murderer, Paul Sharpe, kidnapped a 15-year-old girl at knifepoint in Altrincham, holding her captive for eight hours during which he bound, assaulted and threatened her before being arrested in a hotel car park in Knutsford. The victim was reported missing, and police identified Sharpe’s car through CCTV, leading to his capture. Sharpe pleaded guilty at Minshull Street Crown Court to multiple charges including kidnapping, sexual assault, threats with a bladed article and administering a noxious substance. Prosecutors described the ordeal as terrifying and praised the victim and her family for supporting the case. Sentencing is scheduled for September 4, 2026.

Teenager, 15, who sped on e-scooter is spared jail over horrific crash that killed pal
A 15-year-old boy received an 18‑month youth referral order and a five‑year driving ban after causing the death of 14‑year‑old Jacob Calland in an e‑scooter collision in Wythenshawe. Riding at high speed and running a red light, the boy crashed into a BMW, projecting both boys into another car. Jacob sustained catastrophic brain injuries and died eight days later. The judge emphasised the driver’s troubled upbringing, lack of training and focus on rehabilitation over custody. Jacob’s mother delivered an emotional statement about her loss, while police urged parents to ensure children understand the risks of e‑scooters and their illegality on public roads.
