A proposed local-government reorganisation would divide Totnes’s Bridgetown area between the new Torbay and Devon Coast and Countryside unitary authorities. Totnes Town Council, residents, community groups and local politicians say the split would damage community cohesion and complicate access to services, funding, libraries and waste facilities. The council plans to ask the government to keep Bridgetown within one Devon authority, while Berry Pomeroy residents likewise oppose joining an expanded Torbay and warn of risks to local assets, green spaces and habitats.
