Sible Hedingham's Garden of Remembrance site to be extended
Planning permission has been granted to extend Sible Hedingham’s Garden of Remembrance onto approximately 480 square metres of Grays Hall Meadow near Rectory Road. The project will provide about 100 additional plots for cremated remains, addressing the parish council’s warning that only five spaces remain. Braintree Council found the scheme compatible with the churchyard and surrounding heritage assets, and no objections were received from residents or relevant environmental and heritage authorities. Permission is subject to conditions, including use of the land for ash interments only.

GCSE Success Sends Halstead Student to Stage School
Sixteen-year-old Halstead student Ruby Wiles achieved three grade 9s, a grade 8, two grade 7s and three grade 6s in her GCSEs, including 100 percent in English literature. After five years at The Ramsey Academy and membership of Frederick Douglas Performing Arts Academy, she has secured a place at Gosfield to study performing arts, with ambitions of pursuing stage performance and musical theatre.

Halstead in Bloom Becomes Finalist for Special BBC Award
Halstead in Bloom, a volunteer group that creates and maintains floral displays across Halstead, has been shortlisted for the BBC Make a Difference Awards. Secretary Julia Gray said the group was surprised and proud to reach the finals after being nominated and interviewed by BBC Essex. The finalists will attend an awards ceremony in Chelmsford on September 6, when the winners will be announced.

Band Performs Popular Covers at Packed Halstead Park

Halstead: Grease show highlights Fred Douglas Academy talent

Overnight closures along 15-mile stretch of A12 start today

Halstead council confirm major changes to annual procession
Halstead Town Council plans to replace its traditional torchlight procession with a new format in December 2026 after Braintree Council and emergency services raised concerns that the event had become too large to guarantee public safety.
