National Trust appeal to restore Dunwich Heath after fire
A major wildfire at the National Trust’s Dunwich Heath reserve near Leiston devastated about 210 football pitches of rare lowland heath, destroying habitats, wildlife and trees. Dunwich Heath fire swells to size of over 200 football pitches
A wildfire at Dunwich Heath in Suffolk has spread across approximately 150 hectares, equivalent to more than 200 football pitches. The blaze, which began around 5:30 p.m. the previous day, remains difficult to contain because of changing winds. Firefighters, regional support crews and an emergency helicopter using a specialist water bucket are working to control it. The incident has been declared a major emergency, and around 50 people have received support at a rest centre.

Large fire breaks out at Dunwich Heath by the coast

Police searching for missing teenager from Oulton Broad
Police reported that 17-year-old Rachel, who had been missing from the Oulton Street and Parkhill area of Oulton Broad since about 1:40 p.m. on July 29, was found later that evening. Suffolk Constabulary had asked local residents to check sheds and outbuildings and review CCTV, and thanked the public for supporting the appeal.
