The reMarkable Paper Pro can run Android 13 — it’s not pretty, but it works and it’s an incredible upgrade
YouTuber Chalid Raqami has demonstrated a customized Android 13 port running on the reMarkable Paper Pro. The unofficial installation expands the tablet’s capabilities by enabling apps such as Kindle and Microsoft OneNote, support for third-party Bluetooth keyboards, and quick switching between Android and reMarkable’s original operating system. Performance remains limited by the Paper Pro’s 2GB of RAM and quad-core processor, with noticeable lag and graphical glitches, but Raqami is working toward a simpler installation package for wider release. The Onyx Boox Go 7 is offered as a ready-to-use Android alternative.

We spend £1.6bn a year on subscriptions we don’t want — fast-tracked UK Government policy promises to make cancelling them easier, and will make ‘phoney bargains’ illegal
The UK Government plans to bring forward new subscription rules to January 2027, requiring reminders before free trials and long contracts end or renew, a 14-day cooling-off period in certain cases, and straightforward cancellation methods. The measures respond to an estimated 10 million unwanted subscriptions costing consumers £1.6 billion annually. The government also plans to prohibit misleading “phoney bargains,” including inflated pre-sale prices and deceptive recommended retail prices, with the Competition and Markets Authority able to treat false “was” prices as banned practices. A consultation is expected in the autumn, while opposition figures have criticized the subscription policy as previously announced.

Is Google Gemini trained on Google Docs? One indie developer thinks so, after it told players about his unreleased game plans
An indie game developer claims Google Gemini revealed the unreleased name of a game character and accurate details about mechanics contained in private Google Docs. Google says private documents are not scanned to train foundational AI models, although publicly accessible documents may be indexed and third-party extensions or user prompts could expose content. TechRadar could not reproduce the results, and the developer and a friend later failed to recreate the apparent leak. Possible explanations include accidental access, prior exposure, hallucination, or an isolated fluke, leaving the cause unresolved and underscoring the risks of sharing sensitive information with AI systems.

Budget Meta Ray-Ban Alternatives Are Selling Out in Stores — But Please Don’t Buy Them
Budget camera glasses are selling out, including Kmart’s AU$89 Anko model, as consumers seek cheaper alternatives to Meta’s Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses. The article argues that low-cost models may worsen privacy risks because they can enable covert recording and may come from companies with weak security practices or limited accountability. Based on the author’s testing experience, cheap glasses also tend to suffer from poor comfort, audio, cameras, artificial intelligence, and software. Consumers interested in smart glasses are advised to save for a reputable brand with strong independent reviews.

Mystery Booster Commander Edition is everything I could want from a Magic: The Gathering set — please, Wizards of the Coast, print as much as possible
Mystery Booster Commander Edition expands the Mystery Booster concept with a Commander draft format and mechanically unique cards that are legal in constructed play. The set includes Rulebreakers, new Commanders, Sorceries that can serve as Commanders, Eminence cards and unusual effects such as Black Lotus tokens. The writer is especially excited about the Commander drafting experience but worries that limited availability, as with Mystery Booster 2, could make the new cards difficult and expensive to obtain. Wizards of the Coast is urged to print and distribute the set extensively through events, Secret Lair Festival in a Box releases and local game stores.
