Barys Kit, Developer of Moon Flight Fuel, Dies at 107
Barys Kit, a Belarusian-American rocket scientist who developed a space rocket fuel based on liquid hydrogen, has passed away at 107. Kit's work was pivotal in enabling moon flights, and he authored the 'Rocket Propellant Handbook', a significant reference in the field. Despite his achievements, including a time capsule tribute in the US Capitol, his contributions were seldom acknowledged by Belarusian state media due to his views on the government. Kit's life was marked by survival during WWII and a successful career in the US, where he worked for North American Aviation and the International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation. He retired in Germany, close to his homeland, and remained multilingual and positive until his final days.
