A moorland wildfire near Chop Gate on the North York Moors was believed to have been started by a discarded campfire, burning roughly a 300m‑by‑100m area. Fire crews, farmers and gamekeepers collaborated using specialised vehicles and equipment to contain the blaze despite limited water access. The fire damaged moorland habitat and nesting birds, prompting renewed warnings from the fire service against campfires, barbecues, littering and other ignition risks in high‑risk areas.
