The world's mysterious mangrove forests captured in 13 striking images
Thirteen photographs from the 2026 Mangrove Photography Awards showcase mangrove forests and their wildlife, including Bengal tigers in India, mud-feeding dolphins in Florida Bay, flamingos, rays, turtles and jungle cats. The images also document threats such as discarded fishing nets, pollution, deforestation, aquaculture, coastal development and climate change. Mangroves store substantial carbon, protect shorelines and support adjacent ecosystems, while Global Mangrove Watch reports a net global increase of 477.2 sq km in mangrove cover between 1985 and 2025.
