Guernsey woman issued summons for bill she says she did not get
Guernsey resident Liz Orton was issued a petty debts court summons after failing to pay a £250 hospital bill she says she never received. The summons added a £76 cost, although she accepted that the underlying charge was valid. The States of Guernsey said its invoicing processes were working properly and suggested checking email spam folders and address details. Guernsey Post defended its delivery service while acknowledging occasional misdeliveries, and a lawyer advised recipients not to ignore summonses and to seek an agreement to withdraw or adjourn them.

Little Sark residents 'ran out of water' during fire
Residents in Little Sark experienced temporary water shortages as more than 400 tonnes of water were used to extinguish a major fire on the island’s south cliffs. With no mains supply, homes rely on private wells and boreholes, some of which ran low. Speaker of Chief Pleas Paul Armogie said water levels were slowly recovering and praised the volunteer fire service’s organisation and training. Suggestions for improving future responses included the potential use of high-powered pumps to draw seawater, though feasibility remains unclear. Stocks Hotel offered pool water, but fire crews sourced supplies elsewhere.

Stocks Hotel offered its swimming pool water, though the fire service relied on other sources.

Guernsey 'inaccessible' for people with sight loss and impairment
People with visual impairments in Guernsey describe significant challenges navigating the island due to inaccessible infrastructure, citing dangerous crossings and obstacles missed by white canes. Advocacy groups call for simple, reasonable adjustments such as clearer step edging, while officials say they are balancing heritage concerns with accessibility improvements. A local deputy demonstrated how small changes can help by marking step edges himself, as efforts continue between authorities and the Guernsey Blind Association to address areas of concern.

Guernsey 'inaccessible' for people with sight loss and impairment
Blind and visually impaired residents in Guernsey describe the island as difficult and intimidating to navigate due to inaccessible infrastructure, with hazardous crossings and obstacles that white canes cannot detect. Representatives from the Guernsey Blind Association call for simple, reasonable adjustments such as step edging, while officials acknowledge challenges posed by heritage features and say they are working with disability groups to address concerns. A local deputy drew attention to the issue by marking steps with chalk, demonstrating how small measures can improve safety for people with sight loss.

No current plans for water use restrictions in Guernsey
Guernsey Water reported that reservoir levels remain healthy and there are no current plans to introduce water restrictions despite recent record temperatures and short periods of high demand. Operations manager Jon Holt advised residents to make minor adjustments to reduce strain on treated water supplies. Future resilience measures include converting Les Vardes quarry into a reservoir, though the decision to use the former Ronez quarry for storage faces a potential challenge from Deputy Andy Sloan.
