Skipton storm to victory after Walker’s six-wicket haul

Farm shop near Steeton celebrates second anniversary
Hawkcliffe Farm Produce near Steeton and Utley celebrated its second anniversary with a three-day sampling event featuring home-bred beef, locally sourced meats and products from Yorkshire suppliers. Owners Sarah and Dan Thompson said the farm shop was continuing to grow, while MP Robbie Moore praised their work and encouraged local residents to support the independent business. The shop sells meat, vegetables, baked goods, ice cream, biscuits, honey and soap, and operates four days a week.

Wharfedale score 50 points in entertaining pre-season win
Wharfedale defeated Old Rishworthians 50–12 in an entertaining pre-season rugby union fixture at the Upper Dale. After trailing 7–5 early on and losing a player to injury, Wharfedale took control through tries from Archie Brewster, Joe Charnley, Orson Hall, Henry Ellison, Jay Kay, Jack Kitching and Callum Trees, with Archie Haddon adding five conversions. Old Rishworthians contributed positively despite the one-sided second half. Wharfedale’s planned friendly against Kendal has been cancelled, and the team will now prepare for its National Two North opener away to Chester.

Band with Devoted UK Following Announces Barnoldswick Gig
The Slambovian Circus of Dreams will perform at Barnoldswick Music and Arts Centre on September 4 during its 2026 UK tour. The Hudson Valley band, known for combining Americana, southern rock, Celtic influences and British folk, has developed a devoted UK following since first touring Britain in 2008. The tour supports 13-Live, recorded at WAMC in Albany in 2024, with tickets available through the venue.

Rathmell YFC Marks 80 Years with Bumper Show Turnout

Nine students from Ingleton Kazoku Karate Club achieved their first Dan black belts after a grading on July 11. Four Skipton Swimmers Shine at National Championships
Four Skipton Swimming Club athletes—Betsy Rider, Quinn Kelly, Will Skiggs and Stanley Dunne—produced strong results at the Aquatics GB Next Gen British Championships and the Swim England National Championships. Steeton fall to six-wicket defeat against champions Otley
Steeton lost by six wickets to defending Aire-Wharfe League Premier Division champions Otley after being bowled out for 206. Ben Hemsley top-scored with 52, while Archie Cox and George Bell added late runs, but Otley chased the target in the 36th over after stands of 105 and 57. Steeton remain fourth and next face Horsforth Hall Park. In Division Two, Skipton were dismissed for 128 after Horsforth posted 202-8, with Matthew Cordingley making 94.

Austwick Village Show returns with community spirit
The 2026 Austwick Village Show attracted strong entries and visitors across art, flowers, produce, crafts and cooking, despite weather-related declines in flower entries and a slight overall fall from 2025. Melanie Greenhalgh won Best Exhibit in Show for a felted Old Father Time, narrowly beating Tony Horswill’s recycled-oak cabinet. The event’s income is expected to match or exceed last year’s total. Support from the Yorkshire Dales National Park included an £8,772 donation, while Eleck Energy Ltd sponsored solar panels and battery storage for the village hall. Patrick Grant of BBC’s The Great British Sewing Bee welcomed visitors and joined the prizegiving. The next show is scheduled for August 7, 2027, with an AGM planned for October 28.

Drivers warned as two North Yorkshire roads face closures

Gargrave crush Glusburn by 284 runs in Craven League rout
Gargrave defeated Glusburn by 284 runs in Craven Cricket League Division One after making 351-9 and dismissing their opponents for 67. Alex Lorimer, Chris Lambert and George Beckwith were the leading performers. Silsden regained second place by beating Hepworth & Idle, while Airedale and Sutton also won. In Division Two, Ben Sugden starred for Silsden II with an unbeaten 93 and seven wickets, while Thornton-in-Craven posted 300-5 largely through Shane Taylforth’s unbeaten 159. Glusburn II recorded the major Division Three chase, beating Cowling II with an unbeaten partnership from Umar Dar and Amir Javed.
