It’s not fall, it’s autumn and can people stop saying 'guys'
Helen Mead argues against the growing use of American-influenced expressions in British English, objecting to terms such as “fall,” “guys,” “train station,” “reach out,” “movie,” “apartment,” “I’m good,” and “cops.” She acknowledges that several supposedly American terms have British origins and concedes that language naturally evolves, while attributing current linguistic exchange partly to global communication platforms such as YouTube and TikTok. Her husband takes a more accepting view and notes that English usage is also influencing American children through British media.
