UK financial system strengthened with new safeguards for major technology providers
The UK Government has designated Microsoft, Google Cloud, AWS and Oracle as Critical Third Parties, bringing them under direct oversight by UK financial regulators to strengthen resilience across the financial system. The new regime will allow regulators to gather information, assess operational resilience and enforce requirements to reduce risks from disruptions to cloud services used by banks and financial firms. Government officials and company representatives expressed support for the measures, which aim to safeguard financial stability, protect consumers and enhance collaboration between regulators and major technology providers.
