London strip pubs: inside the capital's disappearing venues
London's remaining strip pubs are presented as remnants of a nightlife format that combined traditional pub culture with live adult entertainment. The Woolpack in Hayes and The Griffin in Clerkenwell continue to offer football, drinks and sexual entertainment under borough licensing arrangements, while The Nags Head operates as a more conventional strip club and may eventually become a boutique hotel. Other historic venues, including the Windsor Castle and Flying Scotsman, have closed. Tighter licensing rules introduced under the Policing and Crime Act 2009, alongside wider pub closures and the growth of purpose-built adult venues, have contributed to the format's decline.

Blackwall Tunnel new charge September 2026 - what we know
Transport for London will increase Blackwall and Silvertown tunnel tolls from September 21, 2026. Peak charges will rise for cars, small vans, motorbikes, large vans and heavy goods vehicles, while off-peak increases will generally be smaller. Drivers can pay through TfL Autopay, the TfL Pay app, online or by phone; unpaid tolls may result in a £180 penalty, reduced to £90 if paid within two weeks. Eligible residents in several east and southeast London boroughs may receive discounts of up to 100% if they receive specified state benefits. The tolls were introduced after the Silvertown Tunnel opened to fund its upkeep, balance traffic between the crossings and support congestion and air-quality objectives.
