Firm fined £190,000 for hounding elderly people with nuisance calls
Elderly Aids Limited has been fined £190,000 by the Information Commissioner’s Office for making nearly 760,000 unsolicited marketing calls to pensioners registered with the Telephone Preference Service. The company promoted call-blocking devices and services, with one customer paying £139 upfront and £6.99 per month. The ICO said callers were aggressive and misleading, EAL ignored information requests, continued calling during the investigation and attempted to strike itself off the Companies House register. The regulator also ordered the company to stop illegal marketing calls and comply with caller-identification rules.
