Britto Lorence, 27, was sentenced to an 18-month community order and 150 hours of unpaid work after being convicted of performing a sexual act under a blanket beside a mother and her young son on an Emirates flight from Dubai to Newcastle. The mother reported the incident to cabin crew and said she was deeply distressed. Lorence initially pleaded not guilty, later pleaded guilty on the day of trial, and then unsuccessfully sought to withdraw that plea, saying he had been pressured. He was also ordered to pay £914 in costs and a victim surcharge.

A wildfire covering about 8,700 hectares on France’s Cap Ferret peninsula has prompted hundreds of holidaymakers and residents to evacuate by road and boat. More than 400 people have been transported from the area, while two firefighters were killed battling the blaze near Bordeaux Airport. French officials describe the situation as highly tense, with rising temperatures and shifting winds complicating containment. President Emmanuel Macron has requested European assistance, with aircraft from Croatia, Portugal, the Czech Republic and Slovakia expected to support French firefighting operations.
