Planning officers have recommended approval of a proposal by Hurstwood Sports Group to build five enclosed padel courts at Plumpton Racecourse, on part of the site used as a driver training centre. Lewes District Council’s planning committee is due to consider the application. Although the council received 35 letters of support, 25 objections cited potential noise, traffic and visual impacts; the applicant said these concerns could be addressed through planning conditions.

East Sussex County Council agreed to review the booking system for its household waste recycling sites following concerns that it excludes some residents and may contribute to increased fly-tipping. Councillors highlighted dissatisfaction with the system’s effectiveness, while officers noted potential cost savings if it is retained. A scrutiny committee review was approved after an amendment gained broad support.
