Colchester double amputee completed Round the Island Race
Simon Wilson, a double amputee from Colchester, completed the Round the Island Race as part of a 13‑member Stride Forward crew composed of individuals with life‑changing injuries and disabilities. The team sailed a Farr 65 around the Isle of Wight, finishing 30th in their class and 264th overall after nearly 10 hours and dozens of tacks. Wilson described the experience as transformative, helping him regain a sense of self following a traumatic accident. Stride Forward, a national charity supporting people recovering from serious physical trauma, trained the crew through sessions in Plymouth and continues to offer programs to build confidence and independence.
