A man died after getting into difficulty in the sea off Frinton's Esplanade, despite efforts by emergency services including an air ambulance. Witnesses described the shock and distress of seeing the response, while Essex Police said the man's family had been informed and supported. Colchester-born journalist to release book, Indefensible
Colchester-born legal journalist John Hyde is set to publish Indefensible on September 15, examining how lawyers contributed to the Post Office scandal. The book argues that legal professionals knew about defects in Fujitsu’s Horizon system but failed to disclose crucial evidence while pursuing more than 900 wrongful convictions of sub-postmasters. Inspired partly by former sub-postmaster Lee Castleton, Hyde hopes the book will expose systemic failures in legal practice and encourage reforms. Launch events are planned in London, Manchester and Colchester, with the Colchester event free but limited to around 120 attendees.
