Fire deployment reduced as New Forest emergency eases
The New Forest wildfire, which began after a van caught fire on the A31 near Ringwood, has been surrounded and brought under control, allowing the major incident declaration to end and reducing the number of fire crews. Firefighters will remain for at least another 24 to 36 hours to dampen hot spots and prevent flare-ups. The A31 and nearby Forestry England sites are expected to remain closed for several more days for repairs and safety checks. Fire authorities say recent weather has reduced wildfire activity in England but warn that another heatwave could lead to further incidents, prompting mobile alerts urging people not to use items that could ignite fires.

Fire deployment reduced as New Forest emergency eases
Fire crews are being reduced as the New Forest wildfire is brought under control, although firefighters will continue monitoring hot spots and dampening the affected area for at least another 24 to 36 hours. The blaze, which began when a van caught fire on the A31 near Ringwood, affected about 1.6 sq km and led to the declaration of a major incident. The A31 and nearby Forestry England sites remain closed while roads are repaired and fencing and barriers are replaced. Fire officials warn that further hot weather, potentially including another heatwave in September, could lead to additional wildfires, and the public has been urged not to use items such as barbecues or garden incinerators that could spark fires.
