Reported for the South African Broadcasting Corporation in 2024. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) had announced that Tropical Cyclone Hidaya that was threatening the East African coast "had completely lost its strength".
Hidaya, which had been projected to make landfall in Tanzania and Kenya that weekend, lost its strength after hitting Tanzania's Mafia Island.

In South Africa's 2024 general election, the African National Congress (ANC), lost its 30-year governing majority. The final tally gave the ANC 159 seats in the 400-member National Assembly. This news pkg looked at the need to form a coalition government with the new parliament at the time scheduled to meet to elect a new president. China has been quietly driving an electric vehicle revolution in many parts of Africa, creating jobs and supporting a transition away from fossil fuels. A raft of African governments are welcoming Chinese EV imports and production. This comes even as the United States and the European Union slap higher tariffs on Chinese EV imports in a bid to counter competitiveness. EV adoption is on the rise in East Africa, with the 2023 Africa E-Mobility Alliance report recognizing Tanzania as a regional leader in the transition having around 5,000 vehicles on its roads.
